Y8 Population Pyramids

Today we looked at the different types of population pyramids and the reasons for the different shapes.  Below are the links used in the lesson today.  A copy of the blank population pyramid outline can be downloaded by clicking on the word file below

The IDB  is the International Data Base and most countries population data can be found here and you can construct your own population pyramids and collect your own data from this site.  You will need this to help you with your homework next week.

BBC Education for Scotland has produced some online activites to help you understand population pyramids further.

Here is an example for Venezuela in 2006.

Venezuela was mentioned in assembly by Mr Armstrong today.  If you remember he showed you a clip from the Venezuelan Orquesta Juvenil Simon Bolivar (below is a youtube clip of the performance can you see Mr Armstrong?).  Mr Armstrong mentioned that the orchestral project was set up to help children with very little money.  How can we tell from the above pyramid that Venezuela is a Less Economically Developed Country?.
