Travel Photographer of the Year?

Above is a slide show showing some of the highlights from the last four years from the Travel Photographer Of The Year awards.  As the summer holidays are coming up I thought I would introduce St Ursula’s Travel Photographer Of The Year award (for staff and students).

The image can be of anywhere you have travelled to this summer (if you aren’t going on holiday it could be a photo of an interesting place in London).  All I ask is that the photo must have a sense of place and that they are in a digital format.  Look at the examples above to give you some ideas.  The place must be identified in your application and make sure you label your file so that I know who you are.

Images can be put into the geography shared network folder under photocompetition.

There are three categories Y7-Y9,   Y10-Y11 and Over 16 (Staff).  All photos entered will be shown on this blog in the online gorgeous geography flickr gallery so every one has a chance to show of their photographic talents.  There will be  prizes for the Winners and two runner up prizes and the winning entries will have their digital images printed and framed and awarded in assembly.

There is also a Young Travel Photographer of the Year award with some fantastic prizes to be won so if any of your entries are particularly good we could enter them in this prestigious competiton also.

Hi everyone sorry it has been so long since I last posted but it’s that time of year again and I have been busy writing new schemes and making new resources for the following year.  There will be lots more postings over the next few weeks of useful finds and some new resources you can play with.  To keep you going until then here is a great game to play which comes from the ISDR (International Strategy for Disaster Reduction).  This is an organisation whose aim is to reduce the number of dead and injured from natural disasters.

Year 7 should look at the flooding scenario and Year 8 at the earthquake  or Tsunami ones in preparation for next years unit on earthquakes.   Click on the image to get going

Savage Weather Photo Competition

Congratulations to Sophia Dunn in 7L. This is a photo of of her sister Sky Diving. I think that she has won the extreme weather competition as temperatures at that height are very cold and wind speeds will be very high.

Weekly Photography Competition for everyone

Calling all students and staff!

Today sees the launch of Georgeous Geography’s Photo Competition.  The competition is open to anyone who attends St Ursula’s (That includes all staff).  You need to send in a picture based around a theme.  This is like the observer competition in which people send in a photo based around a theme. Yes you’ve guessed it, our competition is going to be based around a geographical theme each week.

This week the Met office has issued a severe weather warning for most of the UK.  So I have decided that this weeks theme is ‘Severe Weather’  The top three photos will be posted here and there will be a prize for the winner.

Entries must be posted into the shared area under Geography Folder and then ‘Photo Competition’ Folder with your details attached (Just call your photo by your full name) the closing date is Friday 16th Feb (Due to half term you can have more than a week).  I will announce the winners on the first Monday after half term.

Remember it must be a digital photograph of something to do with ‘Severe Weather’ it can be as imaginative as you like, you can take it on a digital camera or on your mobile phone just so long as it is your own photo. It could be anything that you think is associated or shows Severe Weather so be inventive.
