This term year 8 will be studying population and migration.  This unit will take us up until christmas and will finish with a decision making exercise.  During this unit you will have the opportunity to take part in many thinking skill activities and some interactive role play activities.

The Unit will answer the following questions

  • What is the worlds population and how has it changed?
  • Why does population change?
  • What factors influence population change?
  • How does population structure vary between countries?
  • Why should we study population?
  • How does a country manage a growing or decreasing population?
  • What is population density?
  • Who is a refugee?
  • Why do people migrate?
  • What effect does migration have on different countries?

You will be assessed in the following way

  • Homework (each week you will recieve a piece of homework and be awarded a grade from A+ to C and recieve a target comment)
  • Peer mark of living graph exercise for DTM
  • Peer marking of shelter construction assignment.
  • Self assessment of creative writing of Mexican Migrants.
  • Teacher assessed level for decision making activity.
